Spokesperson of the Sandton Police Station returns and shares crime trends

After nine months of absence, Captain Bheki Xulu, officially made his return back to the station and shared vital information regarding crime trends around Sandton.

After almost a year’s absence, the spokesperson at Sandton Police Station Captain Bheki Xulu has returned to his post.

In May last year, Xulu was involved in a serious car accident on Summit Road and it took him nearly nine months to fully recover.

“I was in the intensive care unit for a couple of months and once I left the unit to begin my recovery, I went back home to Durban to spend time with my family. It has been a rollercoaster and it’s a story for another day but I am happy to finally return to my community,” said Xulu.

He was eager to share crime updates with the community.

“What we saw through our crime statistics and analysis, theft out of motor vehicles reports is currently our biggest concern. Even though it affects every area, we identified that the main locations are Kelvin and Sunninghill. These crimes usually occur during the presence of load-shedding as most surveillance cameras fail to operate, same with other crime trends,” said Xulu.
“The second crime trend is car hijackings, especially at the Buccleuch interchange. We urge residents of Buccleuch to be alert.”

He added the other crime trends in the area were cellphone snatchings and housebreakings.

“We ask our residents to be cautious at shopping centres. Put your belongings in the boot where items are not visible. Secondly, to report criminal activities or anything suspicious as it guides our officers to find the perpetrators based on the descriptions. We want to keep our community safe and that goal starts with all of us – the community and police officers.”
