Bryanston Rover Crew representative participates in the International Rover Week

After learning more about environmental sustainability at the International Rover Week held in Switzerland, member of the Bryanston Rover Crew Jonathan Pienaar shared that he plans to educate others on the importance of using renewable energy.

A local rover hero from the Bryanston Rover Crew had the opportunity to participate in the International Rover Week held at the Kandersteg International Scout Centre in Switzerland.

Fourways resident Jonathan Pienaar was recently invited to join some of the best rovers from 28 different countries for an advocacy training course from December 28 and January 4.

Participants were educated on human rights and peace education followed by the importance of environmental sustainability.

Pienaar aims to use the skills and lessons which he gained from the International Rover Week to encourage the use of renewable energy in South Africa. “Currently South Africa still relies on over 80% of power generation from coal. Renewable solutions, such as solar and wind power, are more important to not only reduce South Africa’s large carbon footprint, but are also a more immediate fix to the extreme load-shedding South Africa has already experienced this year.”
