The Morningside and Sandton Knitwits Group tackle 67 blankets

Founder of the Morningside and Sandton Knitwits Group, , welcomed 13 individuals to her home for a knitting season in preparations for the 67 blankets campaign.

Preparations for winter and Nelson Mandela Day have started for the Morningside and Sandton Knitwits Group who have already started their target to reach 67 blankets before July.

The newly established organisation started its operations on February 16 with 13 participants. Sue Scott, the founder of the social knitting group was more than delighted to open her doors to strangers who have grown to become friends.

“It was a fabulous morning; and most importantly, everybody helped each other. It does not matter what your level or your standards of craft is, you can always learn from somebody else,” said Scott.

According to Scott, the participants could knit anything they felt comfortable with, from blankets to scarfs.

“I’ve been doing the 67 blankets and it gets to a stage where you get lazy. Having people around you with the same goal pushes you further. Another positive factor with the group is that everyone benefits through learning, socialising and also doing it for a good cause.”
