One step ahead for the learners and staff members of Brescia House School

Learners and staff members celebrate their Valentine’s Day with a special campaign honouring the victims of gender-based violence

A school that has been at the forefront of educating its learners on gender-based violence, Brescia House School, recently dedicated their day of love to honour the victims of this social pandemic.

During the past few weeks of January and February, learners were given lessons on the importance of solidarity and striving for a better future for both women and children.

According to Helga Bishop, head of marketing at the school, the discussions were solely based on children’s rights and responsibilities, various ways to keep safe, speaking out when people are being hurt, and standing up to bullies.

“No matter our race, creed, gender, religion, language or age, we need to treat everyone in our path with kindness and dignity,” said Liz Norman.

The school joined in on the campaign known as One Billion Rising back in 2012 and has been going strong every February 14. This year on Valentine’s Day, learners all gathered on the lawn in the shape of a handprint, representing comradery and peace in the world.
