Imbumba Foundation and Spur Corporation launch five-year partnership

The communication manager of the Imbumba Foundation, Sina Moyane, discusses the purpose and goals of the partnership between the foundation and Spur Corporation.

The fight to eradicate period poverty in South Africa keeps going strong.

The Caring4Girls campaign which falls directly under the Imbumba Foundation, partnered with Spur Corporation’s Sidima Sisters to provide sanitary pads to girl learners from various disadvantaged backgrounds.

The partnership which launched on February 16 is currently set to support two schools, Isilimela Secondary School (Western Cape) and Winnie Mandela Secondary (Tembisa), for a duration of five years.

According to the communication manager of the Imbumba Foundation, Sina Moyane, the initiative was created to assist Grade 8 learners until they reach their final year of high school in order to reduce the estimated time missed at schools due to their menstrual cycle.

“It is these long-term partnerships that allow the Caring4Girls programme to make a real impact on the outcome of our beneficiaries’ performance and ensure those girl children are given the opportunity to grow into young women with dignity and confidence. This will allow them to become future leaders in their own communities, contributing socially and economically to building a better society,” said the founder of Imbumba Foundation, Richard Mabaso.

Beneficiaries of the campaign will receive four packets of sanitary towels on a monthly basis, puberty education booklets as well as quarterly menstrual hygiene education and peer group dialogues at schools.

Spur Corporation hopes that there will be opportunities for the Sidima Sisters team and staff members of the corporation to mentor young learners and help them navigate life. Both entities are now focused on increasing their support from 400 to 1000 girls in the future.
