South Africa says farewell to legend
Fans of the late rapper, Kenan Forbes, professionally known as AKA, unite with the family at the Sandton Convention Centre to say their final goodbyes.
Fans from all over the country united at the Sandton Convention Centre on February 17 to pay their last respects to the legendary rapper Kiernan Forbes, better known professionally as AKA.
The Victory Lap hit maker and Bryanston resident was shot dead in Durban on the evening of February 10. His friend Tebello ‘Tibz’ Motsoane was also shot and killed in the incident that shocked the country.
Friends and fans of AKA were welcomed by the Forbes family to say their final goodbyes. Police officials and paramedics were on standby.
Throughout the memorial service, there were mixed emotions with some celebrating the musician’s life and others still in a state of shock. Fans who were not granted access to the service stood outside sharing their thoughts of what the rapper meant to them and to the world.
“The objective is to pay our last respects to Mr Forbes. He played a big part in the music industry and he stood with the culture of South African hip hop when others shifted from genre to genre. He was an inspiration to a lot of people including myself. His music and personality touched our hearts, long live Super Mega,” said fan Matthew Monyaha.
The highlight was when fans sang a few AKA songs with the support of a marching band.
Rest in paradise, Kenan Forbes and Tebello Motsoane.
