Road closures: Six points that will be affected by AKA’s memorial at the Sandton Convention Centre on Friday

JMPD will be controlling traffic on the day with the assistance of SAPS and the event's private security.

The memorial service of renowned artist Kiernan Jarryd “AKA” Forbes will be held at the Sandton Convention Centre on February 17.

It is a public event limited to 2 000 attendees in the venue. Sandton Central’s precinct manager Elaine Jack said the area might be congested with fans and mourners paying their last respects.

Below are the six points in the Sandton CBD where the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department(JMPD) will control and implement partial road closures around the centre:

  • Maude and Fifth Streets
  • Maude and West Streets
  • Alice and Fifth Streets
  • West and Katherine Streets
  • West and Rivonia Sreet
  • West and Duodar Streets

The memorial is expected to end at 18:00.

“The event has the support and resources allocated from the province and the region so there will be a significant contingent of policing in place for the memorial service,” said Jack.
