Rajinee Govender launches Covid Chronicles

A book looking back at the tribulations encountered by people during the pandemic season.

Sandton local Rajinee Govender officially launched her book Covid Chronicle at an event held in Rivonia on December 9 2023.

The book explores the trauma experienced by the characters and offers readers a diary-like revisitation of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Govender said that she chose the diary format because she felt it would do justice to the reader in identifying with the characters personally.

“Anyone literate can read my book,” Govender said. “My book explores the psychological and emotional trauma of the characters.

“I have written stuff about the trauma that people experienced during the lockdown, and the trauma where people lost a loved one or lost their livelihood due to job retrenchments, and stuff like that.”

The event was characterised by Govender reading an extract from the book, as well as an interactive audience participation session facilitated through QR codes.

Guests were asked about aspects of COVID-19 (like getting vaccinated, and positive outcomes that came from the pandemic), and they responded on the digital platform availed by DotDot – the company that partnered with Govender for the launch.

The event wrapped up with a discussion on how the panellists circumnavigated their way through the pandemic. The panel, was moderated by Vimal Ramkylas from DotDot –– and included Mokopane Lewaba, Rajinee Govender, Roshni Magan, and Mandumo Mguli.
