Happy holidays from Ward 103 councillor

Ward 103 councillor Lynda Shackleford wishes the community a special festive season and blessed year ahead.

Ward 103 councillor Lynda Shackleford reflects on a year of highs and lows as she wraps up her first year as councillor.

According to Shackleford, half of the year was spent playing catch up on the backlog of service issues due to Covid-19 and the other half was spent learning about how the City’s inner workings.

“[The] policies and procedures, which department is responsible for what and to just find out who to call when you need assistance for a resident on an issue, there is no councillor handbook for this.”

She added that getting to know the residents in the ward has been both a creative and interesting experience as there was no ready-made residence database for councillors as well.

“I have met residents standing on the side of the road in the pouring rain when a pipe bursts, knocking on doors when City Power needs to get into an area, house meetings, spruit clean ups, while shopping at the local and just having residents reach out who need assistance or who would like to offer their help in the ward.”

Ahead of the holiday season, Shackleford wishes the community a very special festive season and a blessed year ahead.

“For those of you who are going away, travel safe and have a great holiday. For those of you like me who like to stay in JHB over December make sure you take time out and relax.”
