Sadag launches support group to aid women

The South African Depression and Anxiety Group encourages women over the age of 18 struggling with depression, anxiety and daily life stressors to join its free online women’s mental health support group.

The South African Depression and Anxiety Group (Sadag) called on society to acknowledge the hardships, challenges and difficulties facing women on a regular basis.

Throughout August the group hosted a series of weekly talks to discuss the state of women’s mental health. In an effort to address some of these challenges and a lack of access to resources, Sadag also launched a support group with local women’s mental health advocate Sharon Manzini.

According to Manzini, who has had a long-time passion for mental health, the support group will focus on women and single parents to help lessen the burdens and struggles that they may be experiencing. “I started a women’s support group to help build a community of women as we journey through life and learn to manage our mental health.”

The women’s support group is aimed at all women 18 years and older struggling with depression, anxiety and daily life stressors. “Joining a support group offers a platform where like-minded people in similar circumstances can support and encourage one another.”

Women are encouraged to join the group, talk about their struggles and get the support that they need with these free online meetings. Meetings are held every second Thursday at 18:30.
