The event was also the first hybrid event of its kind, hosting attendees both online and in person.

According to JSE director of marketing and corporate affairs Vuyo Lee, the aim of the conference is to ensure that women walk away with confidence and enthusiasm where financial decisions are concerned.

“There are a lot of investment opportunities and lessons that we as women need to attain to take charge of our investment journey so that we can achieve financial independence.”

Keynote speaker, multi-award-winning farmer and entrepreneur Mbali Nwoko encouraged women across the community to not be scared and instead face all of life’s opportunities head on.

“Six years ago, I was a nobody – I invested a lot of time and effort getting to know the industry, today I’m now able to give back as a first-generation farmer.”

Nwoko shared that when she was starting out in the farming industry, she started with just R50 000 in a very big and well established industry. This meant that she experienced big wins and equally big losses.

But, she added, the only thing that mattered was how you picked yourself up and rose above those times.

“Don’t be afraid to take risks, it’s a difficult thing and your emotions will be tested but we need change. Whether you’re starting or building a business, my message is take pride in what you do, be authentic and put skin in the game.”
