Local platform W-Suite calls for women empowerment to break corporate barriers
At its recent summit in Sandton, W-Suite called on the women in the community to work together to uplift and empower one another into positions of influence and leadership
Women continue to leave a lasting legacy of inspiration, empowerment and transformation.
This was according to W-Suite founder Katie Mohamed its highly anticipated summit on August 18 at the Johannesburg Stock Exchange.
In partnership with Imperial Logistics, the JSE and Brand South Africa, the full-day event hosted a series of important panel discussions which explored this year’s theme of ‘The Era of the Empowered Women’.
The W-Suite platform was created as a means for advocacy, dialogue, networking and action aimed at propelling women into positions of influence and leadership.
“In order for us to lead like women, we need to have these conversations. When we talk about being at the table we often wonder who’s table do we need to be seated at? Sometimes we can have this sense of entitlement that says ‘I am a CEO of a company and you need to be at my table’, but no. When you [women] leave here today, you will be building your own table and that is what a seat at the table looks like,” said Mohamed.
Speakers throughout the day included, but were not limited to, the Turkish ambassador to South Africa Ay?egül Kanda?, Brand South Africa’s strategic brand manager Thoko Modise, newly crowned Miss South Africa Ndavi Nokeri and legendary South African singer Yvonne Chaka Chaka.
Mohamed added that the only way that more women will be able to create their own table is by creating connections that uplift and empower one another.
“Women often think that empowerment needs that we need to be financially successful, we need to have a seat at the table, we need to break down barriers but it is also about overcoming hurdles of systemic patriarchal paradigm. And by empowering women we can, in turn, create empowered societies.”
