“We haven’t been able to do this event for the last two years because of the pandemic so it’s good to see all of our learners back in action. This is usually our warmup challenge before participating in the inter-high event which will happen later next week at Ruimsig,” said the Bryanston High School director of sports Wian van Wyk.

According to Van Wyk, the winning school will have the opportunity of hosting next year’s challenge at their school or nearby stadium.

From start to finish, the challenge was between two schools, Bryanston and Queens High School. After the heated relay competition, points were accumulated and the winner of the 2022 Torch Trophy Challenge was announced.

“We haven’t won the competition since 2014, it feels amazing to finally get the credit that we deserve. We couldn’t have done it without the hard work that our learners have done with their preparations and the support of the people sitting in the stands. It feels good to win,” said the athletics director of Queens High School, James Kapay.
