Local production The Coolest OGs returns for season two

Morningside resident Jimmy Muteba’s local production of The Coolest OGs returns for a second season, bigger and better than before.

Morningside resident Jimmy Muteba celebrates as his show The Coolest OGs returns for a second season.

Produced by Muteba’s local production house Rebelintown Productions, season two follows older people between the ages of 60 and 74 as they go head-to-head in a series of fun and unexpected challenges. With the help of their grandchildren (between the ages of 18 and 29), the OGs compete for a R100 000 grand prize.

According to Muteba, season one was a great success with the show’s acquisition by international production powerhouse Banijay.

“This is the first- ever South Africa television format to be picked up for production in markets across the world (US, Europe, South America, Asia and Australia). The show made its worldwide debut last year in June on SABC 2 [and] by September it was licensed to Showmax.”

Muteba added that a few weeks after its release, the show was shortlisted for Competition Show Of The year at the London Content Innovation Awards.

In season two, audiences can look forward to more fun and memorable moments with the introduction of talented actor and comedian Siyabulela ‘TaFire’ Deli as the show’s new host.

“The format always included grandchildren but could not be fully realised in the first season as it was shot last year during the height of Covid-19.

“Social distancing meant that grandchildren were not allowed to visit their OGs. This time around we were able to exploit and realise the full format of the show as it was always intended to be, with OGs and their grandkids.”

Each episode will feature a celebrity guest judge which will include Tresor, Liopelo Maphathe, Candice Modiselle, Macc Gee, Lentswe Bhengu, Benny Afroe, Ms Cosmo and Mpumi Mlambo.

New episodes of The Coolest OGs air on SABC 2 every Sunday at 18:30.
