Owner of Sandton Pools swims against currents to get a win

Founder of the Global Green Procurement (Pty) Ltd and Sandton Pools Brenda Williams receives a prestigious award from the Nedbank Business Ignite with 702 for her company that aims at saving energy and water.

Staying afloat in a male-dominated industry doesn’t just happen overnight, especially in the case of Brenda Williams. She learnt at a very young age that to live out her dreams, she would need to fight for it.

Before she was known for her energy and water-saving features at Global Green Procurement (Pty) Ltd and Sandton Pools, Williams started her journey trying to find her purpose. Raised by her mother from Holland and her Irish father, Williams found herself connecting cultures in her home country, South Africa.

“For many pioneer people that came to South Africa, it was difficult navigating the environment socially and financially,” said Williams.
“My father worked from dark to dark to provide for the family and in those days women didn’t work, so my mother was a housewife. I developed a drive of improving our environment by witnessing my parents working hard.”

Once she finished high school, Williams went on to pursue a short career in modelling and a career in contract drafting until the age of 22. The birth of her swimming pool company came as a surprise to all, including herself.

“How I got into the pool industry was through a former lover of mine. He owned a pool service company and I worked for him. He had a problem with gambling. His problems led to my solution in finding my purpose in life. I left his company and registered my own.”

The queen of pools recently received her recognition for her energy-saving pool company through an award presented by the Nedbank Business Ignite with 702. “I didn’t think I had a chance at winning any award because I’m a woman, so when receiving it I was happy.

“I strive to educate South Africans to improve their load on the grid.
“I didn’t know my value until I had to fight for it which was when I started. With effort and passion you can follow your dreams especially as a women today.”
