Leaders and members of Rotary Africa meet in Sandton

New director of Rotary Africa Patrick Chisanga addressed his colleagues on the future of the organisation under his leadership at The Leonardo in Sandton.

Members and leaders of the global organisation Rotary International who are stationed in various parts of Africa came together on June 24 at The Leonardo to discuss plans on improving their operations.

The meeting not only discussed future plans, it also gave members of Rotary an opportunity to meet their new director of Rotary Africa, Patrick Chisanga, from Zambia.

The Rotary International district governor of District 9400, Annemarie Mostert, was pleased to have her Rotarians under one roof in her home country sharing ideas and solutions to social problems faced in Africa. The organisation, which primarily focuses on the provision of basic necessities to developing communities, had a selection of speakers from different parts of Africa sharing their knowledge from their operations.

“I have the passion to serve and to assist others who are less privileged than me and this is why I have been a Rotarian for the last 37 years,” said Chisanga.

“My goal is to uplift the standards and qualities of underprivileged people across Africa and the world. Our year begins on the first of July, so we are here in Sandton to train our officers on their roles and to inform them on what their responsibilities are. We are doing this to prepare ourselves for the first day at the office.”

One of the speakers from Kenya, Caroline Jerotih Kimutai, shared a presentation with her colleagues on the impact of technology directing towards the benefits it has on society. From access to statistics centred on health to collaborating with leaders, her presentation was praised by the congregation.

“If you are on one bicycle, you will go fast, but if you are on a tandem bike, you will go far. We are focusing on going far with others as it results in stability,” concluded Mostert on the importance of teamwork and what the organisation stands for.
