New trial date is set for man who allegedly set his girlfriend on fire

The trial date was postponed due to a conflict of interest between parties.

The case of a man facing seven counts of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, including allegedly setting his then-girlfriend on fire, will go to trial in Randburg Magistrate’s Court in mid-August.

The trial was set to start on July 13 but it was postponed due to a conflict of interest among parties.

The man, whose name is known to Randburg Sun but will not be published until he has pleaded, has been charged regarding incidents in Kelvin, Sandton from 2016 to 2018.

These included alleged physical abuse as well as dousing his girlfriend in ethanol and setting her on fire.

He had previously appeared in court in April.
