It’s easy to become a victim of crime in today’s time regardless of location, age and race. Police organisations from all over the country have been trying curb the issue with every possible solution from increasing road blocks to giving discussions.
Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department [JMPD] spokesperson, Officer Xolani Fihla, took the time to share the much needed information regarding safety tools and tips to lower the chance of becoming a victim of crime.
Safety tips:
- Don’t leave any of your personal belongings unattended in public.
- Be wary of strangers, if someone starts approaching you, rather find a safe way to keep moving: change walking paths and walk close to the public.
- Walking at nigh is not advised, but if you need to go, go with a group, never walk alone.
- Keep the windows of your car rolled up, especially when you’ve stopped at busy intersections or stop signs.
- Don’t keep valuables in plain sight. Even if your windows are rolled up. Criminals will want to smash the window to get the item.
- Avoid looking at your phone while driving, especially while stopped at traffic lights. This can make you a victim of a smash and grab.
