Bogus cops and police officers arrested after Bryanston kidnapping and robbery
The complainant identified four of the suspects to the police and they were charged.
Two bogus cops and two police officers were arrested following a recent robbery and kidnapping, and more arrests are expected.
This after police warned the community of bogus cops committing hijackings on Malibongwe Drive, the N1 Highway on- and off-ramps and William Nicole Drive.

In the latest incident, Honeydew police spokesperson Captain Balan Muthan said a resident of Cumberland Avenue, Bryanston, was visited by people driving cars marked Gauteng Traffic police and the police’s Flying Squad.
“The police knocked at the [man’s] gate and told him that they are investigating [a] murder case against him,” Muthan said.
“When they [were] inside they [said] all [nine] of them were police officers. He was handcuffed… the house was ransacked and they demanded R300 000 to [drop the case] or for his freedom.”
The man managed to organise R15 000 through the help of his wife and sister.
The ‘officers’ then drove him to Johannesburg CBD where he withdrew the money and handed it to them.
“One of the [‘officers’] who was driving [a] BMW, which was recovered, took him back to his house.”
Muthan would not divulge too many details about the arrests as this was an ongoing investigation after a case was opened at Randburg Police Station.
He did reveal that the complainant identified four of the suspects to the police and they were charged with kidnapping, robbery, extortion, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and the two civilians were also charged with impersonating police officers.
The names of the accused are known to the Randburg Sun but they will not be published until they have pleaded in court.
