Meet Sandton Chronicle’s Father’s Day Essay Competition

The results are in! We have our Sandton Chronicle and Starbucks SA Father's Day Essay Competition winners!

Father figures are so important in the development of a child’s life, whether it’s tata, oom, daddy or even mum – they keep us safe and strong. Often, the best present to show appreciation is a thoughtfully written message of love.
The Sandton Chronicle and this year’s sponsor, Starbucks SA, invited Grade 5 learners of Sandton schools to submit a 200-word essay about their father figure.
Boy, did we receive tons of entries!
Your essays brought both a bundle of giggles and a pool of tears to our newsroom.
Each learner will receive a voucher, courtesy of the Chronicle and Starbucks SA. We can’t thank Starbucks SA enough for supporting such a unique initiative. Just like your coffee, these dads sure save the day!

Leah McCrae, management director at Rand Capital Coffee said, “It’s not often we get to put our heroes’ names up in lights. At Starbucks SA, we only want to associate ourselves with real change-makers, those who selflessly make a real impact on others, and we want to celebrate them. This competition is a lovely platform for us to support, where kids have expressed their love for their dads and the world deserves to hear all about them.”

Congratulations to all who entered the competition!

Thanks to Starbucks SA, winners will receive their share of a whopping R3 500 in vouchers. And, remember to have a safe and happy Father’s Day from our family to yours.
