Sandton City confirmed at 16:00 that the distressed individual has left the rooftop and has been safely escorted into the care of their family.
(1/2) Following up, the individual who was threatening to jump from Sandton City’s parkade has left the premises & been taken to a place of safety. Sandton City Management, together with the SAPS, facilitated the safe escort of the individual into the care of their family.

Part of Alice Lane in Sandton Central has been blocked off to traffic on June 3 following social media reports of an individual standing on the rooftop parking structure of Sandton City.
As of 15:00, Sandton City confirmed in a tweet, “Sandton City is aware of a distressed individual threatening to jump from the building on Friday, 3 June at approximately 09:45. Emergency services have responded to the scene, and the individual is still stationed on the rooftop at 14:50.”
(2/2) Sandton City Management together with SAPS are currently managing the situation, & request the respect of the individual on social media. Sandton City is operating & trading as normal, however access to the mall via Alice Lane is restricted, as the road is currently closed.

According to reports, the individual has been there since 07:00 this morning but their intentions have not yet been confirmed.
In a response to social media comments, the South African Depression and Anxiety Group has confirmed that it is aware of the situation.
“We have activated all necessary emergency response teams and [we are working] with the team on site.”
A Sandton Chronicle journalist has confirmed that emergency services and law enforcement are on the scene.
