All for the little dreamers

Illovo-based Reach for a Dream Foundation continues its operation of making dreams come true as they visit young patients at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital.

As giving is far better than receiving, granting someone’s dream holds no comparison. The Reach for a Dream Foundation recently visited the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital to fulfill a young girl’s wish.

The Illovo-based foundation, which works hand in hand with hospitals and children that are battling life-threatening illnesses, paid Lethokuhle Maziya a warm visit on May 6.

Months prior to the visit, the foundation organised their annual fundraising event at the Sandton Sun Hotel in hopes of making more dreams come true.

Lethokuhle is currently being treated at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital for kidney cancer and has always dreamed of having her own laptop as she enjoys spending her time watching Peppa Pig and Mr. Bean with her friends, according to the foundation.

Members from the foundation made their way to the hospital with one goal in their mind. “Lethokuhle couldn’t believe her eyes when she saw the Dream Team walk in with her beautifully wrapped dreams,” said the head business developer of the foundation, Natalie Lazaris.

“Her eyes lit up with excitement when she saw her name written on one of the wrapped presents. She quickly opened up each dream, and when she finally saw her dream laptop, Lethokuhle gave a big smile and said, ‘Wow!’. In addition to her dream laptop, she also received beautiful and fun slippers that she can wear at home.”

Lethokuhle and her mother were more than grateful for the special gift. As she uses her laptop to watch her favourite shows, Lethokuhle hopes to one day use her dream as a tool for medical research as she set her eyes on becoming a medical scientist.
