City inspects Sandton Fire Station

In an effort to ensure that emergency services are able to handle the demands of the winter season, MMC David Tembe recently visited the Sandton and Alexandra fire stations.

In an effort to improve service delivery in the City of Johannesburg, MMC for Public Safety David Tembe recently embarked on oversight visits to various fire stations across the city.

In district 2, the MMC visited the Sandton and Alexandra fire stations to inspect the fire station, all of the available emergency vehicles, check the state of readiness for emergency and meet and greet the staff to understand their challenges.

According to Tembe, it is key for all of the City’s emergency services to have all of the tools of the trade.

“For me it is a non-negotiable. I want all of the personnel in these stations to do their jobs unhindered and provide efficient services to the community.

“If we don’t provide proper tools of the trade and not respond on time to emergencies, someone could lose their life. This is why the needs of workers at this department must be prioritised at all times.”

The MMC hopes that these oversight visits increase efficiency on how to deal with fire safety and all incidents related to fires and emergency.

“I want to see a pro-active approach to fire and emergency services being rolled out to all the communities we serve.”

As we head into the winter period, emergency services often observe increases in incidents of fire emergencies.

“The oversight visit to these stations couldn’t have come at a better time. We are ramping up our preparations and preparedness,” said Tembe.
