Stand united against crime

Bramley Police Station Commander Colonel Own King called on the community to stand united against crime at its recent Imbizo in Marlboro.

In an effort to engage with the community and hear their concerns first-hand, Bramley Police Station recently hosted an Imbizo in Marlboro.

Members from the police station, Gauteng Emergency Medical Service, JMPD, Bramley CPF gathered at Marlboro Garden School on May 7 to listen to and address the issues currently facing the community.

In statistics shared by Captain Tshimangadzo Nesane, she noted that more of the crime reported to the Bramley Police Station comes from Sector 1. Marlboro, Marlboro Gardens and Wynberg form part of Sector 1 of the Bramley Policing Precinct.

“One of the main concerns in contact crime and the most contributing suburbs in the sector are Marlboro and Marlboro Gardens,” said Nesane.

Contact crimes include murder, attempted murder and sexual offences, as well as common assault and robbery.

She added that hotspots for murder and carjacking include Marlboro and Zinnia drives, from all entries.

Station Commander Colonel Own King called on the community to not only assist law enforcement in the fight against crime but to also stand united with law enforcement as it works to keep the community safe.

“The criminals that we are looking for live within this community and thus, we are appealing to you [the residents]. Please let us know who they are, without your assistance and information we will not know who they are,” said King.

“Are we going to continue to allow the younger generation in this community to be traumatised by people who have no interest in making their community a better place for all? We cannot allow that.”
