Fourways and Bryanston high schools lock horns in highly anticipated derby day

FOURWAYS – For the last two years, both Fourways and Bryanston high schools have had to keep their rivalry on ice due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The sporting rivalry between two high schools in the north of Johannesburg shows a high level of intensity after missing sports for the last two years.

Fourways and Bryanston high schools put on a showcase of hockey, rugby and netball matches on May 6 and 7.

The first teams of Fourways High School swapped out their traditional red and blue kits for black and grey for an initiative in standing against gender-based violence. Bryanston High players also supported the initiative, swopping their blue socks for socks with black with white stripes.

The day started with the first team girls hockey. Three goals by Tatenda Kandava and one by Abby Neilson gave Fourways High their win for the day. A close match in the boys’ hockey saw a victory for Fourways thanks to an early, and only goal, by Fourways player Siya Phakathi.
