Sandton police say burglary is still a concern

MORNINGSIDE – Colonel Cain Sibitane shares crime stats for April with the public.

Acting Station Commander of Sandton Police Station Colonel Cain Sibitane discussed the criminal activities that had occurred in the precinct in April.

According to Sibitane, the rate of car hijackings had dropped drastically due to police safety operations and campaigns. Despite the positive trend, police officials were urging all community members, especially those who resided in Buccleuch to keep a watchful eye out for anything suspicious. Buccleuch and Kelvin were known to be the current hotspot areas for car hijackings.

Morningside and Wendywood were currently facing an increase in residential burglaries which usually occur from Thursday to Monday between 02:00 and 22:00. Another crime trend on the rise was robberies with firearms which usually occurred on weekends between 05:00 and 16:00.

Sibitane thanked partnering law enforcement agencies, the Sandton Community Police Forum, local security companies and the public for assisting the station in the reduction and reporting of criminal activities in Sandton.

Sibitane pleaded with the public to always be vigilant when driving or walking. If there is any suspicious activity related to crime, report the illegal act to Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
