Gallo Manor siblings continue to make strides in the junior chess world.

Eleven-year-old Ethan and his sister Zoey (9) Mungal recently performed exceptionally well in the South African Junior Chess Championships.

Held in Centurion, the competition saw the country’s best junior chess players go head-to-head.

According to mother Rochelle, Zoey, the current U10 girls South African Chess Champion, placed first in her age category.

“She also managed to get a full score, winning 11 out of 11 games.”

Ethan placed second in his age category with a score of 10 wins out of 11 games.

This follows the pair’s phenomenal performance in the Africa Schools Individual Chess Championship in Nairobi, Kenya which saw both siblings win their respective categories.

“They [Ethan and Zoey] have now been selected to represent South Africa in the Africa Youth Chess Championship which will be held in July in Zambia and the World Cadets to be held in September in Batumi, Georgia.”
