Local car drifter celebrates on the podium

While Bordeaux resident Jason Webb took home the win, Jim McFarlane was proud to not only participate in this year’s qualifier but also finish in the top three.

Local car drifter Jim McFarlane recently took home a phenomenal second place in the action-filled Red Bull Car Park Drift South African qualifier.

Held in Durban, McFarlane went head-to-head, defending his title against the country’s best car drifters.

While Bordeaux resident Jason Webb took home the win, McFarlane was proud to not only participate in this year’s qualifier but also finish in the top three.

“I was as consistent as ever, didn’t knock any cones [over] and got all the points but unfortunately it was not enough in the end. I think I lost by only three points so I am quite happy and quite confident in how I competed and how it ended,” he said.

This year’s tournament had a live audience for the first time.

Durbanites were treated to tyre-screeching action while their favourite drifters were put to the ultimate test, both mentally and physically on the course while having to impress the panel of judges.

McFarlane added that this year’s competition was on another level.

“To be able to compete with South Africa’s best and still be consistent, stay on the podium, it was a good year.”
