Local production house goes international

Television series Still Got It! will see older people between the ages of 60 and 80 compete in a series of fun and unexpected challenges, with the help of the Gen-Z crowd.

Local production house Rebelintown continues to make waves in the international film and television industry.

The company is set to go international after the world’s largest content producer and distributor, Banijay Group, acquired the exclusive format rights to Rebelintown’s new original factual entertainment series Still Got It!

Created by its founder and Morningside resident Jimmy Muteba, the series sees older people between the ages of 60 and 80 competing in a series of fun and unexpected challenges, with the help of the Gen-Z crowd (people born between 1997 and 2012), to see which of them has Still Got It!

“There is a growing movement which sees African creativity having its moment in the spotlight.

“This format cuts across generations and with its universal nature, Still Got It! holds great potential to be adapted across the globe,” said Muteba.

He added that Rebelintown had always aimed to do things differently, all while making a positive difference in people’s lives.

“We always believed that entertainment has the power to change lives and behaviours in order to bring meaningful and positive changes in our societies and our global family at large.”

According to Muteba, this series provided the perfect opportunity because older people have a lifetime of experience, and some crazy stories, to share but the youth will not listen.

“So I thought why not challenge them to do some of the things that young people love to do and create a bridge between the elderly and Gen-Z and everyone in-between.

“Older people are a marginalised group, often excluded from conversations, media and entertainment. We need to talk about it and Still Got It! does that in a fun way. If we’re lucky, we’ll all get old one day.”

The local series will join Banijay’s catalogue of more than 4 000 formats, which include Survivor, Hunted, MasterChef, and Big Brother to name a few.

“Our moment has finally arrived and we can’t wait to see how our unique African concepts and formats will be adapted by our international counterparts.”
