Tom’s fundraiser is back on the go

The fundraiser ran from 2013 to 2019 before Covid-19 hit South Africa.

The annual soccer fundraiser tournament for Tom Sundawo is happening again after missing out for two years because of Covid-19.

The fundraiser had been held from 2013 to 2019 to help cover Sundawo’s accommodation and care at Ann Harding Cheshire Home, Northwold.

Come April 27, community members and soccer fans will be hitting the 5-a-side soccer pitches at Fast Sports Fusion, Old Parktonian Sports Club, Bordeaux.

This is to show their support for one of the world’s most cheerful people, who maintains an optimistic outlook despite his situation.

Sundawo was working as a manager at a restaurant in Auckland Park when he was shot in the head at point-blank range during an armed robbery. This left him without the ability to walk or use his right hand.

He makes some money as a quality controller but it is not enough to cover his care.

“I am excited to see people play soccer and be happy because that makes me happy,” he told Randburg Sun.

“They can come and have fun for a good cause.”

Registering an eight-person team for the tournament will cost R1 400.

You can enter individually, and that will cost you less, but Sundawo and the organisers have not yet decided how much that will be.
