Emergency situations can be traumatic, and understandably so.
Fidelity ADT encourages residents to keep all important emergency contact numbers handy, written down or on your phone, at all times.
“When things go wrong, it is perfectly natural to panic and not think clearly. Remembering an emergency telephone number could therefore be a very tough ask at that point in time,” said the head of communication, Charnel Hattingh.
These numbers may not necessarily be for emergency services, it may also include the information of people that you know and trust, who will come to your aid should you need them.
Hattingh recommends that the following number be saved on your list:
- The closest police station – ask if they have specific contact numbers allocated for certain clusters, especially when you are living in a relatively big policing district.
- The closest fire station and hospital.
- Your neighbourhood watch organisation.
- If your town or city has a law enforcement or municipal policing service, add their contact details to the list.
- The contact details for your armed response company’s monitoring centre. This is helpful in cases where you need to cancel a possible false alarm.
- The names and numbers for your neighbours.
“Putting this list of numbers together can give you a great sense of certainty, knowing that you have the correct contact details available when something goes wrong.
“Parents can also help their kids be a lot safer and security conscious by teaching them how to remember these important numbers,” said Hattingh.
