LEESHA HARINGTON: I learned that companies are able to operate remotely which has definitely impacted my life in a positive way. Businesses are all about the bottom line but if there are no people there's no work, so we need to adapt, understand and be more compassionate. Photo: Motlatsi Mailula
March 23 marks the two-year anniversary of the lockdown announcement President Cyril Ramaphosa delivered to the citizens of South Africa.
The Sandton Chronicle asked locals what they have gained or learned over the past two years of lockdown. Here’s what they had to say…
HENDRIK VAN RENSBURG: With the start of lockdown, the normal routine of going to the office was out of the picture. So, at that time, self-discipline and adapting were the most important things I practised and learned. We need to open our eyes and realise that life is short. Stay focused and work hard. Photo: Motlatsi MailulaIVAN GOVENDER: I wouldn’t say that we gained or learned anything. We lost a lot of lives, jobs and we need to fix the economy. That’s the bottom line. Photo: Motlatsi MailulaKITWA NGOY: The one thing that I learned during the lockdown was how to save money. Lockdown really forced a lot of people to step away from their comfort zone just to survive. I just feel like people were oppressed: being told when to do things and what to consume. I’m just hoping that more people have their voices heard by the government.
