Students of Varsity College in Sandton join the fight against crime with the CPF

SANDTON – Community Policing Forum (CPF) and the Sandton police station recruits the leaders of tomorrow at the IIE Varsity College

The Community Policing Forum (CPF) attended a convention at IIE Varsity College in Sandton.

The purpose of the visit on March 23 was to inform the student body on ways to keep safe as well as educate them on how they can play their part in eradicating crime. The function offered students at the institution insight into what the Sandton CPF is all about. The organisation’s priority is to reduce crime by alerting police officials on criminal activities within specific areas or sectors.

Vice-chairperson of the Sandton CPF Sector 3, Louis Agar, informed students on the importance of crime prevention. “The South African Police Service is dependent on security companies and the communities to be able to carry out their duties efficiently. As the community, we are the eyes and ears of every area. We all stand a better chance of bringing down the levels of crime,” said the Agar.

Aside from sharing the importance of the organisation, Agar’s mission of the day was to assist the Sandton Police Station to recruit students to join the SAPS Youth Desk.

“Under the umbrella of the CPF, the police have what they call the SAPS Youth Desk. The initiative is geared towards young adults with a similar interest in assisting the community. Each sector will have a youth desk and each youth desk will elect its own chairman, vice-chairman and secretary. Meetings with a police officer will be arranged every month. This is to keep our young people safe,” she concluded.

Sandton Police Station encourages students to engage and join the SAPS Youth Desk to further reduce crime.
