Friendly game of cricket gets heated in Sandton

SANDOWN – Key player of the Bandits, Shaheen Moosa, took on the role to lead his team to victory as he entertained spectators with an outstanding performance

The Deadly Bandits and Centurion Dynamite went neck and neck in a friendly game of cricket at the Sandton Action Sports arena.

The match proved to have everything to offer the spectators as both teams fought long and hard to be titled victors of the match but only one team could claim the title.

The Deadly Bandits were set to bat first. The key player of the Bandits, Shaheen Moosa, took on the role to lead his team to victory as he entertained spectators with an outstanding performance. Moosa alongside his batsman partner, Zuhaib Zoster, scored a total of 28 runs for their team. Bandits ended their batting session with a total of 112 (3 skins).

Adam Peloakgosi, who was the umpire of the match, discussed a few important changes from traditional cricket to the action sport cricket rules.

“Each pair bats for four overs. Four overs in the system of action cricket is considered to be one skin. Because there are eight players in both teams, each pair will bat four overs till all four pairs in the team have batted. With bowling, each bowler gets two overs per innings. What this entails is that a pair will bat four overs and then they get to bowl two overs each.”

One would automatically assume that it was over for the Centurion Dynamite team but the captain, Yusuf Mulla, did not accept defeat. Mulla took on the challenge and scored 27 runs, taking five catches and six wickets. The Centurion Dynamite won by 118 (1 skin)–112 (3 skins).

After being voted player of the match, Moosa had only one thing to say, “You win some and you win some.”

Abdul Abader of the Bandits congratulated the Deadly Bandits on their victory, “We had them at the first half and toward the end of the match, we made countless errors which cost us the match. So it was a fairly good match.”
