City drives service delivery in Region E

MARLBORO – Residents are encouraged to report all potholes and leaks to the City or their respective ward councillors.

City of Johannesburg Mayor Dr Mpho Phalatse is serious about building a well-run city.

This was according to the mayor at the relaunch of the City’s A Re Sebetseng (Let’s Work) region-by-region service delivery blitz in Region E on February 14.

Region E includes the suburbs of Alexandra, Marlboro, Sandton, Orange Grove and the surroundings areas.

Accompanied by MMC of Environment and Infrastructure Services Michael Sun and MMC of Transport Funzela Ngobeni, the mayor visited various areas of concern in Marlboro and Alexandra.

According to Phalatse, the blitz aims to tackle service delivery backlogs such as illegal dumping, leaking pipes, fixing potholes, broken traffic lights and fixing streetlights on a block-by-block, region-by-region basis.

“We are embarking on this campaign because local government is collaborative work that requires all stakeholders – the City, residents, and businesses – to play their part because the reality is that the City’s administration cannot build a well-run Johannesburg on its own.”

She added that it is time that the City moves away from the thinking and practice of government being distant from communities.

“We must also disassociate from the view that says because I have paid the municipal bill I have done enough.

“And of course, we appreciate our residents who pay their rates on time because it is that revenue collected that helps us deliver services, but we also need residents to be our eyes and ears on the ground.”

Residents are encouraged to report all potholes and leaks to the City or their respective ward councillors.

“Our [the City’s] commitment to you is that we will get the work done, with a reasonable turnaround time.”
