Low bridge temporarily closed due to flood

BUCCLEUCH – Buccleuch Resident Association (BRA) issued a warning statement to the community members of Buccleuch to alert them that the bridge by Bridge Road is impassible and dangerous for any use

A low-water bridge in Buccleuch was damaged by flooding water after heavy rain on the evening of February 4.

Buccleuch Residents Association issued a warning to the community about the possible dangers of crossing the Bridge Road bridge. The association had reported the issue to Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA).

However, some locals took it upon themselves to try and repair the bridge which led to concerns by some Buccleuch residents including Lauren Nightingale of the association.

“I feel uncomfortable with the new changes that some of the residents made on the bridge without discussing it with everyone. The bridge is still a major risk to the members of the community and we are pleading with the JRA to assist us on this matter as soon as possible,” said Nightingale.

The Sandton Chronicle contacted JRA on February 7 and no comment was forthcoming at the time of going to print.
