Sandton police station welcomes Lieutenant Colonel Bellina Mathaba

MORNINGSIDE – During her first visit in December, the Lieutenant discussed with Sandton Police Station Commander Brigadier Egen Moodley what his vision for the station was and also touched on a few expectations for the year.

Serving a community has never been an easy task for anyone but Lieutenant Colonel Bellina Mathaba takes it in her stride.

Officials of the Sandton Police Station welcomed Mathaba to her new workplace recently. The new head of the station’s human resources department was transferred from Brixton Police Station and has a 23-year history of policing to her name.

“Adapting to the whole new environment has been easy. The people in the station have been very warm and welcoming, some would go as far as to knock on my door to have conversations which made me feel more at home. To be honest, it’s the people that make it feel like home rather than the building,” said Mathaba.

Before gearing up for her workday, Mathaba mentally prepares herself by saying a quick prayer for the people who may need her assistance.

“My own perspective of the position is more spiritual than physical. There is a bigger picture behind the promotion. I look at who I am going to impact and how I am going to change the lives of others in a positive direction. I want to be a game-changer and a bridge to the people who are seeking any form of help. I am here for the community.”

When she visited the station before her move, Mathaba discussed the vision and expectations of Station Commander Brigadier Egen Moodley.

“The first time we officially met, I asked him [Moodley] what is his own vision for the precinct. Remember that this is a train, I need to hear from the driver how fast the train is moving and which direction it’s going. My own expectation is to meet and to accomplish his vision for the station.”
