JBA excels in bowls tournament

SANDTON – The annual event saw the country’s top singles bowlers take to the greens from 4 to 6 February.

It was a major win for Johannesburg Bowls Association (JBA) in the recent Bowls South Africa Masters Tournament at Wingate Park Bowling Club in Pretoria.

The annual event saw the country’s top singles bowlers take to the greens from 4 to 6 February.

According to association president Rob Zimmerman, five JBA players took home medals in various categories.

Morningside Bowls Club’s Jason Evans and Gerry Baker went head to head in the final of the men’s open. Men’s number one, Evans, came out on top, taking home the gold after beating Baker 21–14 to clinch his third consecutive master’s title.

Baker took home the silver while the bronze medal went to Bryanston Sports Club’s Victor Siphali.

The women’s open was tightly contested by JBA’s Esme Hayley of Linden Bowls Club and former JBA player Collen Piketh, who currently holds the number one women’s spot in the country.

Piketh took home the gold, defeating Hayley 21–15.

Hayley was awarded the silver medal while the bronze went to Shannon Davies of Roosevelt Park Bowls Club, representing JBA in the Ladies Junior Tournament.

“JBA is very proud and honoured to have an array of talented bowlers,” said Zimmerman.
