Celebration of World Cancer Day

ILLOVO – Residents share how they plan to show their support for World Cancer Day.

As the world raises awareness on World Cancer Day [February 4], the Sandton Chronicle team visited the Discovery Soccer Park in Illovo to ask the locals how they will be showing their support. This is what they had to say…

THESAN CHELLAKOOTY: I am planning on cutting my hair and donating it to the Cancerthon. The other thing that I am planning on doing is to educate people on nutrition, to lower their risk of getting cancer. Photo: Motlatsi Mailula
TENDANI SEBATA: I am just going to fast the whole day and pray for those who lost their lives through the particular sickness. Photo: Motlatsi Mailula
JENNIFER BAUMANN: I work in health so, for me, health is a thing that I do every day and it’s not just important for one day. I celebrate World Cancer Day every day, I never put it down. Photo: Motlatsi Mailula
AJINDER KAUR: To show my support, I am going to send healing to the world through my meditation session on World Cancer Day. Photo: Motlatsi Mailula
ALEXANDRA SOUKA-MAYER: As a teacher, I would often raise money to the cause by selling badges but for this year’s World Cancer Day I am planning on educating my learners so that they feel more compassion for the people who have it. Photo: Motlatsi Mailula
MEUD HLONGWANE: I am going to teach my kids about cancer, the treatments that are available to the people, types of cancers and, most importantly, the symptoms so they know the warning signs. Photo: Motlatsi Mailula
