Gauteng SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo has confirmed that a suspect was arrested and charged for the murder of the 17-year-old on February 5.
“Police were called to a scene at Wessel Road in Edenburg, Sandton. On arrival they found paramedics who had just certified a 17-year-old man dead, after he was found with a stab wound.”
Masondo added that witnesses identified the suspect at the scene.
The suspect is expected to appear at the Randburg Magistrate’s court on February 7.
In a Facebook post, King Edward VII School (KES) confirmed that the victim was in Grade 11 at its Houghton Estate campus.
“The school and red community mourns this senseless loss of life, the red family will miss you dearly.”

A stabbing incident that occurred at Madison Avenue on February 5 has led to the death of a teenager in Sandton.
The local nightclub confirmed the incident on its Facebook page on February 6, noting that the victim was attacked by an unknown suspect a few metres away from the parking lot.
“[The] venue owner, security, police and emergency services were on scene to assist. The suspect was detained and is now in police custody,” read the statement.
According to ER24, paramedics arrived on the scene at 22:45, along with another medical service, to find the teenager lying in the street with a fatal stab wound to the chest.
“He, unfortunately, showed no signs of life and was declared dead on arrival.”
Captain Bheki Xulu of the Sandton Police Station has confirmed the incident.
