Sector Policing and Social Crime Prevention officials from the Sandton Police Station informed Woodmead and Kelvin residents on ways to prevent themselves from falling victim to criminal activities.
Officials from the station distributed safety tip pamphlets to motorists and to the public in various places around the Sandton area on February 2. The tips that were given to the locals informed them of current crime trends affecting their area.
“There is a concern when looking at the crime trend in the Sandton area. There is a slight increase of house robberies, theft with the use of motor vehicles and car hijackings,” said corporate communication officer, Captain Bheki Xulu.
According to police reports, the three crime trends have been greatly affecting areas of Woodmead, Buccleuch and Kelvin since the start of the year.
The theft out of motor vehicles, car hijackings and house robberies indicated an increase in the area of Woodmead, Buccleuch, and Kelvin.
Station Commander Brigadier Egen Moodley urged community members to report any suspicious behaviour in their area to reduce criminal activities.
