Rivonia teachers get their boosters

RIVONIA – The follows education minister Angie Motshekga’s announcement on January 11 that the education and health departments would be working together to drive boosters and vaccinations in schools for education personnel.

In an effort to fast-track Covid-19 vaccinations among education personnel, a team from the Gauteng Department of Health visited Rivonia Primary School on January 28 to administer Johnson & Johnson booster jabs to staff.

The follows education minister Angie Motshekga’s announcement on January 11 that the education and health departments would be working together to drive boosters and vaccinations in schools for education personnel. “The fact of the matter is that Covid-19 is very much still with us and we need to continue to work together to fight it,” said the minister.

While the departments have not yet begun vaccinating learners in schools, 80% of education personnel, including teachers, have already been fully vaccinated.

“We are exploring possibilities to return schooling to normal but we need to do so responsibly and, to this end, we rely entirely on the advice of public health experts, through the Ministerial Advisory Committee, the National Coronavirus Command Council, and indeed Cabinet,” said Motshekga.
