‘Reading is the best escape into a world only you can see’

HYDE PARK – The day was an overall enormous success and the school’s library was filled with eager readers.

Highlighting the importance of reading, Hyde Park High School celebrated World Read Aloud Day on February 2.

The school began the day with an enthusiastic read aloud competition which saw two learners, Grade 8 learner Gabby Nxumalo and Grade 11 learner Alyssa du Plessis, win gift vouchers for The Zone@ Rosebank.

The winners were announced during second break on the school lawns, allowing everyone to join in on the read aloud celebration and take pictures.

According to Alyssa, not only is reading fun but it is more than just looking at a page of words to gain knowledge. “What they [people] don’t appreciate is that the reader enters the world of the story. Reading is the best escape into a world only you can see,” she said.

The day was an overall enormous success and the school’s library was filled with eager readers.
