Opening of cricket tournament at Montrose Primary School ends with showers of rain

PARKMORE – Dainfern College were up against the defending champs, Rivonia Primary School, in the first cricket match of the tournament

It came as no surprise that parents and guardians came out in their numbers to support their children on the opening day of the Montrose Night Challenge on January 28.

The opening of the long-awaited challenge at Montrose Primary School met all the requirements that spectators were expecting – thrills, passion, sweat and tears.

Dainfern College were up against the defending champs, Rivonia Primary School in the first 20-over cricket match of the tournament. Instead of having four innings, each match was scheduled for two innings which forced the players to start and finish strong.

The defending champs batted first and their batsmen hit six 6s and 16 4s in their innings of 172 all out.

The second innings was scheduled to start immediately after the official opening ceremony but due to rain, it had to be postponed to next week. So, Dainfern will be chasing a target of 173 to beat the champions.
