Buccleuch Resident Association celebrates its achievements of 2021

BUCCLEUCH – The association's victories included having a team cut and maintain the grass in various areas such as Parkville, Buccleuch Drive and Gibson West.

Buccleuch Resident Association, which has been operating for more than a decade, has seen numerous positive results in 2021 despite the presence of the pandemic.

The association shared some of its victories and challenges over the course of 2021 followed by their interpretation of what 2022 will hold for the community.

In the start of the year (2021), the association hoped for better service delivery in their community. This expectation was met in a form of repaired potholes situated in some areas. One of the highlights of the year was having the community actively engage with the association which led to an increase of volunteers.

Other victories included having a team cut and maintain the grass in various areas such as Parkville, Buccleuch Drive and Gibson West. This had a domino effect as the association decided to have a clean-up operation on Bridge Road.

The association also shared some of the challenges it faced throughout the year – sewerage flow, water leaks, potholes, increase of crime and the confusion of having two wards in one location. However, the association is hoping that the presence of two wards will be beneficial to the members of the community situated in Buccleuch.

One of the association representatives Lauren Nightingale said, “We thank the contributing community members for their continued support, both financial and physical. We also like to thank Nicolene for arranging a huge clean-up in Buccleuch and getting Pikitup and Uber to place new bins where needed. We thank Greg and the AO team for repairing potholes, also, the Buccleuch First Responders. A huge thank you to all the community members who patrolled during the period of unrest in the middle of the year, and the support team that supplied and contributed towards refreshments for the patrolling members.”

The association wished its community to remain calm, healthy and safe festive season. They look forward to growing their member base and seeing positive results from the City of Johannesburg entities for service delivery across the suburb and wards in 2022.
