Richard Malan of the St. Laurence Children’s Haven discussed how the organisation has been operating a duration of 21 years and that he hopes to see it grow further within the next 20 years.

“Looking after the children comes easy to us but to supply all their needs requires some assistance. We are extremely grateful to be given that opportunity by the Sandton Chefs Circle. We have been involved with the Sandton Chefs Circle for the past four years, they have been a great support to us,” said the Malan.

Rapula Modikwane, food and beverage manager at the Maslow Hotel described the collaboration with the union and the organisation.

“Every three months when the chefs lunch is scheduled, the members of the Sandton Chefs Circle each bring a present: It could be a book, clothes or a toy. We accumulate all the donations from January to September. During the end of the year lunch which happens every December, we bring all those presents and then the kids decide which ones they want,” said Modikwane.

“To be honest with you when I walked in I almost cried. I grew up with parents and the thought that all of these wonderful children don’t have really shattered me. My highlight of the afternoon was seeing each of them [children] smiling once they selected their gifts. We do it for them,” conclude Lutendo Funyufunyu, a member of the Sandton Chefs Circle,
