Spokesperson of the Sandton Police Station warns the community of cellphone theft

SANDTON – Trends of this crime are often random as criminals drive around Sandton with different vehicles looking for golden opportunities to snatch the phones of individuals.

Sandton Police Station has identified that cellphone snatching is on an all-time high and warns communities to be on full alert.

The culprits of this heinous act of extortion mainly target vulnerable women. The station urges the community to be on high alert during this year’s festive session.

A getaway car is usually on standby as an individual walks behind a victim who is operating their device. The individual then snatches the phone and enters the getaway car. It is said that the most common time for these criminal acts is from 06:00 to 18:30.
