SA Guide-Dogs Association ready for annual market

PAULSHOF – Community members are urged to join the SA Guide-Dogs Association's annual Christmas Market.

The South African Guide-Dogs Association will be hosting their annual Christmas fundraising event on November 28 with the theme set to Christmas Carnival.

With many activities planned and available for all ages, Yolande van Rooyen, events manager at the association said the day’s purpose is to raise much-needed funds to continue serving and assisting the visually and physically disabled.

Some of the activities planned for the day include a tour of the kennels, adrenaline-pumping dog races and a demonstration from the assistance dogs.

“At this year’s Christmas Market, we are pulling out all the stops to make sure that this event is a memorable and profitable one so that we can continue with the life-changing service we offer,” she said.

“The orientation and mobility team prepared entertaining and educational activities where visitors will be encouraged and challenged to step out of their comfort zone and into the shoes of a visually impaired person.”
For the children, Father Christmas will be stopping by the kids’ zone to help spread some early Christmas cheer and give out presents.

A number of stalls will be selling various food and drinks, as well as a few stalls selling clothing, art pieces, jewellery, sweet treats and more. “Covid protocols will be followed as everyone’s safety is important. We appeal to the public to support us in our ongoing mission to create more freedom and independence for the visually and physically disabled,” concluded van Rooyen.
