Bramley Police raises awareness ahead of festive season

MARLBORO – While crime is the mandate of the police service, the participation of other role players is critical in the prevention of crime, said Bramley police spokesperson Captain Molefe Mogodi.

As the festive season nears, members of the Bramley Police Station were joined by community organisations on November 13 for a festive season awareness drive in Marlboro.

The campaign saw members of the police force, Community Policing Forum, Victim Empowerment Programme volunteers and local religious leaders took to the streets by way of a motorcade convoy.

According to Bramley Police Station spokesperson Captain Molefe Mogodi, the convoy began on Malboro Drive before travelling to Setjwetla Informal Settlement and finally, the south of Marlboro.

“Pamphlets with safety tips, and other focus areas to address contact crime such as sexual offences perpetrated against women and children were distributed to the community.”

Religious leaders also stopped at various identified crime hotspots and prayed.

While crime is the mandate of the police service, the participation of other role players is critical in the prevention of crime, said Mogodi.

“The team [from Bramley police] then had to visit the areas that fall within the Bramley policing precinct accompanied by some community leaders and pastors, as they are our eyes and ears.”

He added that another challenge facing the community is safety on the road.

Drivers are urged to obey the rules of the road, remain vigilant and alert, and not only during the festive season.

“Refrain from drinking alcohol while knowing you will be driving a vehicle. Being under the influence of alcohol is not only an offence but also endangers the lives of others.”
