Door to door awareness campaign details ways for residents to keep safe this festive season

SANDTON – Officers went door to door distributing pamphlets that informed residents on crime trends.

Members of the Sandton Police Station, Sector Policing and Social Crime Prevention and Communication Sector conducted a door to door crime awareness campaign in Bryanston and Sandton on November 18.

The aim of the campaign was targeted at preventing house robberies and burglaries in areas that have been targeted by criminals in the past two months.

The safety tips included:

  • Many criminals gain access by tailgating, ensure that the gate is fully closed before leaving
  • Don’t leave the garage open or partially open. It serves as an invitation to burglars
  • Only open the windows that have secure burglar bars
  • Always confirm who is visiting before letting them in
  • Equip your property with a top-rated home security system
  • Ensure your yard is lit up enough at night
  • Be wary of service providers and have proof of the identity of your employees.

Sandton Police Station Commander, Brigadier Egen Moodley urged the community to report any suspicious act or criminal behaviour to CrimeStop on 086 00 10111 or Sandton Police Station on 011 722 4200.
